CHIGAGO - In a combined action by members of 8th Day Center for Justice, Voices for Creative Nonviolence, and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Worker, 15 people were arrested while protesting Senator Richard Durbin’s continued support for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Following a weekly vigil held outside the federal building in downtown Chicago, 10 people entered the building at 9am and proceeded to the office of Senator Durbin where they pledged to stay until Senator Durbin pledged to vote against any future spending for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as refusing any military action against Iran. They stayed for one and a half hours until they were arrested by agents of Immigration Customs and Enforcement(ICE).
Shortly after the first group entered the building a second group of 5 people entered the building’s lobby revealing shirts that came together with the message, “SENATOR DURBIN, STOP FUNDING WAR”. They remained in the lobby waiting to meet with a member of Durbin’s staff until they were arrested four hours later.
