Associate Director of the Marquette University Center for Peacemaking, Patrick has visited Afghanistan three times to study how Afghans are using the nonviolent methods developed by Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to bring about an end to war.
Patrick will outline a recent history of this country, racked by 40 years of wars that have claimed 2 million lives, and he will share what he has learned about successes at nonviolent peacemaking.
“These peacemakers clearly understood that an essential part of peacemaking and nonviolence is to respond to injustice with dignity.” —Patrick on the Afghan Youth Peace Volunteers
Free and open to the public—donations will be accepted to support Patrick’s work. Refreshments will be served following the program. The event is being organized by Madison’s Just Peacemaking Initiative, a group exploring justice and peace from a Catholic perspective.
