Savannah to Kings Bay Peace Walk September 4 – 14 2018

Kings Bay Naval Base is the home to six Trident subs, each one having the explosive capacity of at least 5,000 and up to 9,000 Hiroshimas!

We walk in solidarity with the Kings Bay Plowshares Seven, calling for the abolition of the Trident submarines and all nuclear weapons. Savannah is the home of Gulfstream, a business jet manufacturer wholly owned by General Dynamics, contractor for the making of the Tridents and one of the largest military contractors in the world. We walk in nonviolence and prayer with the hope of bending the moral arc of the world towards justice and peace.

The Kings Bay Plowshares Seven

On the evening of April 4, 2018, seven intrepid citizens entered the Kings Bay Base with a message — “The Ultimate Logic of Trident is Omnicide,” the destruction of all life on planet Earth.

These Catholic social justice elders — 3 women, 4 men, ranging in age from 55 to 79 — were willing to risk the consequences of arrest, trial and prison because of their conviction that nuclear weapons, if used, will render planet Earth unlivable for future generations.

What can we do?  Be resolved … that nuclear weapons never be used again and that we do all in our power   —  praying, speaking, organizing, resisting, lobbying, educating,  demonstrating  etc.…  that a Livable Planet Earth be available to our descendants and, indeed, to all generations to come.
